The object of football is to score seven points each time you have the ball. The 7-yard slant is your source for the seven topics relating to Long Beach City College football. Here are your first seven names, topics, subject and numbers:

Since this is the inaugural column, let's also start with the inaugural year of Mike Reisbig [1]. Coach Reisbig has the team flying high right now (3-1) and already has more wins in the first four games than the team had all of last year. His no-nonsense mentality has changed the football team around for the better.

Last year's team went 2-7 [2]. This year's team is off to a 3-1 start and is averaging 34 points and 386 yards of offense per game.

Travelle Washington [3] is hoping to come back and make an impact against Grossmont. Washington, who missed the Vikings 42-28 romp of the West L.A. Oilers with an injury, is definitely hungry to play after he saw teammate Darren Tubbs [4] rush for 193 yards and two touchdowns against the Oilers.

If it doesn't show up sometime soon, I'm going to start looking for the Vikings punting [5] on milk cartons across America. It definitely has been missing for the Vikings this year as they are only averaging 26 yards per punt.

Though unrelated to football, this year's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim [6] proved once again that winning the most games during the regular season (100) means absolutely nothing. Just ask the 2006 San Diego Chargers who finished 14-2, best record in the regular season and were dismissed from the playoffs in the Divisional round by the New England Patriots.

Extra Point

Finally, to cap off the seven points with the always-easy extra point, I will challenge the Viking special teams [7] to get it done once again. In the first four games, two have been decided by big special teams plays. The first was a punt blocked by El Camino that was returned for a touchdown. The Vikings lost, 41-21. Conversely, the Vikings blocked and returned a punt against Cerritos that gave them a 28-24 victory.
