Missouri being upset by Oklahoma State, Florida putting up 51 points on an LSU squad that only allowed 64 points all year, Arizona beating Dallas in overtime on a blocked punt, after a 52-yard game tying field goal sent Dallas into the extra period.

LBCC falls to .500 after offensive eruption
Mission Viejo, CA - An offensive showcase was on display in Mission Viejo Saturday, Oct. 18 as the Vikings (3-3, 0-2) lost to a potent Saddleback College (5-2, 3-0), 63-44. Running back Darren Tubbs opened up the scoring in the first quarter for the Vikings with a 6-yard touchdown run.

Vikes streak snapped at 12
The Viking men's soccer team lost, 4-2, to Mt. San Antonio in a South Coast Conference game Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the LAC Soccer Field. The loss to the Mounties, ended the Vikes 12-game undefeated streak and dropped them to 9-1-3 and 2-1-0, while Mt. SAC improved to 7-2-2 and 1-1-1.

LBCC rallies for 4-4 home draw

Two goals by Viking midfielder Mayra Carranza helped her team's fortunes as it rallied for a 4-4 tie against Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the LAC Soccer Field. Down 2-0 in the first half, the Vikes got on the board in the 41st minute when midfielder Christina Durant garnered one of her three assists when she connected on a free kick to sophomore defender Kaitlynn Estes.

Women finish 14th, men 28th

A middle of the pack finish was the final result of the Viking women's cross country team as they placed 14th out of 29 teams at the Bakersfield meet on Friday, Oct. 3. The Vikings finished with a time of 1:49.16, good enough for a 416 score. Orange Coast won the meet in 1:34.

Volleyball team bounces back from loss with a sweep
The 19th ranked Vikings [8-2, 1-0] got back on track Friday, Oct. 3 by sweeping East L.A. 25-20, 27-25, 25-16, marking the start of South Coast Conference play. The impressive victory came just two days after an agonizing five-game defeat at the hands of familiar foe San Diego Mesa, that knocked the Vikes out of the first round of the playoffs in 2007.

LBCC defense hopes to shut down potent Grossmont attack.
A 3-1 start means nothing for the Vikings as a heated battle in conference play against Grossmont College, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. After a stellar start in their non-conference schedule, the LBCC football team is hoping it can carry momentum from the bye week and into this weekend's game against a tough Grossmont team.

Water polo teams gain two wins each
Both the Viking men and women's water polo teams shared the same results at the Merced tournament which began on Friday, Oct. 3. Both teams lost their first matches on the tournament's first day, but finished with wins on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Viking women defeated Sierra, 9-8, to improve to 15-3 and 2-0 in the South Coast Conference.

'Work hard, play hard' is motto of new coach

First-year LBCC women's golf coach Stacy Komai, has a "responsible, reliable and honest," group of women, which make up this year's golf team. With only one returning member of last year's crew, Karen Griffith, Komai pledges to work with the remaining 10 women who are all first years or grey shirts; players not fully enrolled in LBCC, yet eligible to play.

It was a long, cold night for the Vikings football team after a 33-7 loss to the Grossmont Griffins at Veteran's Stadium Saturday, Oct. 11, pushing the Vikings' record to 3-2 and 0-1 in conference play.

The weather starts to have that familiar autumn chill, the wind blows the leaves off the trees and onto the ground, football teams start to make their push for a possible postseason run.

Mediocre finish for cross country teams

The Viking men and women's cross country teams both fared similarly at the Brubaker Invitational at Irvine Regional Park by finishing 12th and 8th respectively on Saturday, Oct. 11. The men, who finished with a time of 1 hour, 55 minutes and 58 seconds for a 339 score, lost out to San Diego Mesa that won the event in 1:49.
