Neelam Kahlon, a guest speaker at the LBCC Political Science Student Association Club on Thursday, Sept. 25, spoke about her job as a field organizer for the Long Beach Democratic Party. Afterwards, she invited the students for a Debate Watching Party at Ecco's Pizza on Friday, Sept. 26.
"During the 2008 election season, our club members will participate in an optional forum for students to debate and discuss important issues affecting their lives and their country, " said Dan Komin, vice president of the club.
At Ecco's pizza the next day, the club seemed entertained, rather than serious, about the statements made by Republican presidential candidate John McCain made during his speech.
When McCain said, "people can purchase their own healthcare," people gasped in shock. "He's patting himself on the back," Kahlon said.
When Democratic candidate Barack Obama said, "I'm opposing George Bush's policy," the crowd clapped and cheered in approval.
"When McCain talks about Ronald Reagan it's like a blast from the past!" said Cindy Goss, a diner who was sitting with the group.
The LBCC members ate pizza and salad paid for by the Long Beach California Democratic Party. Kahlon invites all students and residents to volunteer at the Party's office at 2115 Bellflower Blvd, Long Beach.
