Unfortunate words-coming from the pen of a young student caught up in the "gimmies." Kallayan Thuch may not be cognizant of the fact that she is receiving free money which she did not earn, and which she will never have to pay back.
Would "patience" perhaps more easily pervaded her heart if she were to remind herself of that fact? This young lady seems afflicted with a blinding sense of entitlement which reeked from the pages of the Viking.
Dear Ms. Thuch:
I read your commentary in the Sept. 11 Viking about your experience with the Financial Aid Office and I am sorry about what happened. Several issues came together for us in financial aid this year: reduced summer counseling hours due to budget cuts, the loss of personnel just at our busiest time, and a 2,000-application increase in financial aid this year, which seems to mostly consist of last-minute applicants.
I am writing in response to the political cartoon for the article, "A cheat's move by picking Palin." I agree 100% with the article and am myself, anti-Palin, but find the political cartoon to be offensive because it targets Palin not as a candidate, but as a woman.
