If you're a fan of comedy and basketball, the LAC Gym on Friday, Oct. 24 is a place you may want to be, as former Viking basketball player, Vic Camp, will host a night of stand up comedy to raise funds for the men's basketball team.
"You can expect to see the best entertainment and comedy show I can possibly put on," said Camp. "It will be all about big laughs and lots of fun for the whole family. It's PG-13 so everyone's invited."
The event will feature comedians such as Brett Monn, Will Nave, Jason Collins and Evett the funny lady along with performances by special guest MS. AMORE, a slam-dunk contest and raffle.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Camp, who still maintains close ties with the men's basketball program, was in the Gym distributing some of the more than 20,000 fliers he had printed up for the show to members of the team.
Men's basketball Head Coach Gary Anderson and assistant Barry Barnes were both instrumental in Camp's career. He played forward for the Vikings during the 1990-91 season, where he helped them reach the playoffs. Camp was named to the All State championship tournament team.
"I always wanted to give back to the program because of what Gary and Barry have done for me," said Camp. "If it wasn't for both of the guys, I wouldn't have been able to make a living from playing basketball."
From 1994 to 2002, Camp played overseas in countries such as Isreal and Puerto Rico. Since returning to the U.S., Camp has pursued his second passion, which is entertainment. Camp owns Vic Camp Entertainment and he host comedy night's at Khoury's Restaurant in Long Beach.
Tickets for the event are $10 for students with a valid I.D. and $12 for non-students. Additional information about the event can be found at viccampentertainment.com.
