In a game which saw the sloppy plays and mishaps overshadow the highlights, the Viking football team improved its record to 3-1 Saturday, Sept. 27 as they defeated the West L.A. Oilers, 42-28, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Vikings were led by running back Darren Tubbs, who led all rushers with 200 yards on 32 carries and 2 touchdowns.

Assessing his performance, Tubbs praised toward offensive line, mentioning he would not have been able to do it without them.

The game, which was being dominated by mediocrity and lackluster play by both teams, still had its fair share of offense as LBCC found a way to gain 471 yards of total offense in what could be considered a 3-hour fiasco.

"We practiced like we played," Viking Head Coach Mike Reisbig said. "We had a horrible week of practice and it showed here tonight."

"We fought hard until the end though and came out with the victory," he added.

Fighting hard until the end is a norm for this Vikings squad as Reisbig praised the stamina with which his team played. He also said that the team's conditioning and running periods are merciless and rigorous.

The game against the Oilers, marked the first time this season in which the Vikings did not outscore their opponent in the second half [21-28]. Second half scoring through four games has seen LBCC dominating 76-60, which may prove the team is in better shape than its opponents.

The Vikings are off next Saturday with their bye week. Next up, the Vikes are scheduled to face Grossmont College (San Diego, CA) Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
