Timely defense and great special teams play helped the Vikings stun the Cerritos Falcons, 28-24, on the road Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Vikings used their defense to notch their second victory of the season, equaling last years total and improving to 2-1.

After a dominating first half, Cerritos led the Vikings 14-7, but the face of the game changed after half time.

LBCC showed that it was in better shape than its opponent for the third game in a row by outplaying and outscoring their counterpart in the second half.

The scoring started for the Vikings when Scotty Miranda forced a fumble after a completion to Cerritos receiver Joshua Robbins.

The turnover sparked the offense and Viking quarterback Josh Powell connected with receiver Brandon Joseph on a 7-yard pass for a touchdown, tying the game at 14.

A field goal and touchdown by Cerritos made the score 24-21, and the Falcons seemed to have the momentum.

That was until Iosefo Mikaele recovered a botched snap by Falcons punter Jared Hall and returned it for 21 yards for pay dirt, giving the Vikings a 28-24 lead that they would not relinquish.

Powell had a solid game, completing 24-43 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns. A quick start for the Vikings didn't prove to be enough on Saturday, Sept. 13, however as El Camino used its speed, and sloppy play from LBCC, to grab a road victory.

It started out well for the Vikings as they took their first possession 74-yards in 10 plays to take an early 7-0 lead.

From then on, El Camino had LBCC's number. After the first quarter ended at a 7-7 tie, El Camino shifted into higher gear.

Sloppy play on all sides of the ball cost the Vikings as they were outscored 24-0 in the second quarter going into the half, trailing by 31-7. In the second half, however, the Vikings gained some momentum back, outscoring the Warriors 14-13.

LBCC Head Coach Mike Reisbig was happy with the way his team kept battling and didn't give up.

"We came out with pride and fought. I could not be more proud of my guys. We battled in the second half," Reisbig said.

LBCC is scheduled to play West L.A. Saturday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
