The Viking men's water polo team started conference play with a killing against L.A. Trade Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 17, by routing them, 26-2.
In an odd occurrence, goalkeeper Matt Schamp scored four goals against Trade Tech, making him one of the top scorers of the game. Jeff Volosin and Westin Jex also scored four goals each.
"This game was a non-event. (We) had balanced scoring from the whole team," Viking Head Coach Chris Oeding said after the dominating performance.
The win tied the Vikings for first place in the South Coast Conference with Cerritos, which is 4-1. The Vikes are third place overall in the state.
The Viking women are also ranked third in the state after defeating Palomar, 11-8, at the Mount San Antonio tournament Saturday, Sept. 20.
Viking driver Kimmy Morrison led them with five goals and driver Jenna Stain chipped in with two.
Chelsea Datt posted 26 saves for the Vikings.
The men are scheduled to face Sierra on the road Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
The women are scheduled to play Friday, Sept. 26 in the Cuesta Tournament.
