New library kicks off PCC renaissance

Board approves Conant purchase

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, the Board of Trustees adopted the tentative budget for the 2008 and 2009 school year, approved the new property purchase on E. Conant Street, and welcomed new faculty members. The District has been negotiating with the property owner for the property located at 4900 and 4910 E.

Evacuation drills prepare campuses for emergency

Long Beach City College conducted its annual evacuation drill at the PCC on Sept. 18 and at the LAC the following day, teachers and students evacuated designated classes and gathered at the quad flag poles, where they were greeted by police and school officials.

Breakwater's future discussed

A local business group met on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Frenchy's Bistro to discuss the future of Long Beach's breakwater, more specifically, the most eastern structure, which spans about 2.2 miles and helps protect the Alamitos Peninsula from potential flooding.

Twelve students were honored during this year's LBCC President's Ambassadors pinning ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the LAC's Q Building Courtyard. President's ambassadors are recognized for various activities, which includes conducting campus tours, providing information for current and potential students and representing the school in community activities and college events.

Suarez, dean of learning resources, teaching and technologies, wasn't the only person who expressed those sentiments.

Supplemental instruction offers help to students

For troublesome and difficult classes, help is available to achieve success. Students may know about the Math and Reading centers, but there's an untapped resource at LBCC that many students may not be aware of. Supplemental Instruction, or SI, is free additional instruction in a class that meets outside of regular scheduled class hours.

Maybe they confused the SUV for a VW Bug. Maybe they didn't like Fords. For some unknown reason, student Robert Garcia's blue Blazer became the unlikely target of a late-summer bee swarm. With more bees in the air than could be counted, students rushed for cover and the perplexed owner waited for pest control officers to save the day.
