Glaringly Obvious Typos in the Viking?!
Issue date: 9/25/08 Section: Letters to the editor
I got a copy of the Viking newspaper today. I got around to reading it when I got home. The first article I read was about the new LBCC logo but right away I noticed a lot of errors in the writing.
I'm not an English major or anything, but when I notice this many simple mistakes in the school newspaper it makes me question what kind of message we are sending out to the students of Long Beach City College.
Maybe its because of the budget cuts that the newspaper has this problem of not having a reviewer of the articles, but I think we should at least have the student reporters review and revise their articles before they turn them in.
I would at least expect this from the Viking newspaper. Since I look at the articles presented in the newspaper to be from some LBCC students who are better at writing. Thank you for your time in reading this letter.

I write this because I too see far too many mistakes in the paper as well. While it is the editors job to edit the stories, it's becomming obvious that the students who are editing don't know how to edit. (Continued…)

Comments to both prior comments: Imagine that the professors of any of your courses posts your essays for the world to scrutinize. The people you criticize are students who boldly put their ideas out there--with their names attached--to provide your community with news that impacts daily lives and future endeavors. (Continued…)
