I was told that my Financial Aid should have arrived on the 19th of this month. Luckily, I received my missing disbursement the same day 'Patience is NOT always a virtue' was printed in the Viking. Could this have been a coincidence or did my opinion piece light a fire under the butt of some kind financial aid worker who read the Viking?

I'm hoping it's the latter. While it's nice to know that my financial aid issues would be corrected faster than expected, it's even better to know that my ridiculous writing had some type of influence on people.

Although I will never know how I got my disbursement so quick, now I'm starting to think of the possible influence inflicted by my other silly opinion pieces. Did 'Sure you can borrow a pen' get a small amount of people to quit freeloading? Or did others who felt the same way adopt my style of tainting their supplies in revenge?

I doubt the opinion pages are most important to students who read the Viking. However it's nice to believe that a person can indeed change the world through writing. (Not just the Viking)

My own decency and compassion have been blunted by the cruelty of others so positive change is a job best left to someone else. Maybe I should find a handful of decent human beings to take up journalism.
