LBCC alumni organizes jazz and reggae festival
Over Memorial Day weekend UCLA hosted a student-produced Jazz Reggae Festival. LBCC alumni Frank Refuerzo was the festival's online marketing director. Refuerzo posted the event's information on various Web sites that publicized the festival. He was able to reach professional online marketing sites and networking outlets that spread across the Internet, attracting people from as far as Belize and Jamaica.

Classes travel for knowledge

LBCC students will study abroad this Summer in Ireland, Spain, France, Thailand, and Cambodia for cultural immersion and course credits. Students participating in the program departed for Spain May 30 and a group headed to Cambodia on June 2. According to LBCC's mission statement, study abroad offers an opportunity for growth and understanding few other experiences can offer.

'Flaming Idiots' star breaks leg, replaced

For theater student Collin Bressie, the phrase "break a leg" became a reality when he fell and broke his leg during rehearsal, putting him in a cast but taking him out of the cast of "Flaming Idiots," which opens July 17. Corey Nexter will be replacing him as the main character Phil.

16th Summer Pops concert a blockbuster

The 16th annual Summer Pops concert included music teacher and Dean Gary Scott joking about superhero sheet music book on Monday, July 7 in the LAC?auditorium. He showed the audience a toy bunny with a Batman mask, which caused the crowd to laugh. The Wind Symphony was the first to perform with a song called "Marching down Broadway.

PCC clubs add to student life

PCC club members gather information, organize benefits, attend events and even give out food to other students. LBCC students benefit from joining clubs in different ways, members say. PCC student activities adviser Derek Oriee said, "About 15-16 clubs at the PCC share the same common interests.

PCC's hidden Eden provides tranquility

One of the places where students can take a break from typical college courses and studies is the botanical gardens in the NN area on the PCC. The horticulture garden is secluded from the habitual walking paths used to get around campus. A wide plant-covered gate entrance shows what is inside.
