KCTY radio at LBCC is dedicated to providing entertainment and local information to audiences 24 hours a day on the Web.
Located in Building G, the broadcasting class meets at night twice a week and students are given the opportunity to run and produce a live radio show that airs on the Internet.
The station showcases a wide variety of musical styles and features popular and independent artists, sometimes featuring student performances.
The class, which focuses on operating boards, running a professional show and developing a radio-ready personality, is taught by Gary Wagner.
Bron Theron, KCTY manager and broadcasting student, said, "The programs we have here are fully functional and completely run by students. Our success depends on student participation and dedication to the program."
"Anyone can join the class as long as they have a drive for radio and a willingness to learn the business," he said.
Students are encouraged to contact the station with their opinions, event information or requests. KCTY leaders are working to plug into the College Center and gain more recognition.
"I think it would be really cool if we could get played in the student lounge. I think students would benefit from that. That's how fan bases grow. We are trying to get the ASB to notice our needs," Theron said.
People may view KCTY at KCTY.org on the Web or call 938-4300 for more information.
Hours of live shows are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
