The D.G. Boxing Gym will organize it first major boxing event Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Cal State Long Beach Pyramid, with an LBCC student in one of the main events.
The gym promotes amateur boxing, specifically Long Beach boxers. Three of gym owner David Gonzalez' personalized Championship D.
Sophomore student-athletes Sadie Barton and Vannie Prudhomme were honored for their hard work and dedication to their teams when they were named LBCC's first athletes of the year for 2007-2008.
Barton, the Vikings' ace pitcher, set many records from the mound and Prudhomme was nearly unbeatable in the hurdles.
LBCC athletics finished 16th among 108 schools in the 2007-2008 Pepsi/NATYCAA, National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators Cup.
Last year, the Vikings came in 9th. LBCC took the Pepsi Cup crown in 2005-2006.
The Pepsi Cup ranks are determined by the final standings in each sport for California Community Colleges.
