Over Memorial Day weekend UCLA hosted a student-produced Jazz Reggae Festival. LBCC alumni Frank Refuerzo was the festival's online marketing director.
Refuerzo posted the event's information on various Web sites that publicized the festival. He was able to reach professional online marketing sites and networking outlets that spread across the Internet, attracting people from as far as Belize and Jamaica.
Students reacted optimistically to Sen. Barack Obama's victory when he secured the Democratic position as Sen. John McCain's opponent in this years' presidential race.
Obama delivered a speech Tuesday, June 3, in a St. Paul, Minn. sports arena.
Obama said, "I'm not asking you to believe in my ability to change Washington.
LBCC philosophy major Leslie Inigoez figured having a roommate wouldn't be so bad during her sophomore year.
"Having someone to talk to and relate to is what I usually would enjoy with a roommate," Inigoez said in early June. It turned out she had to deal with an unsuitable roommate.
LBCC students will study abroad this Summer in Ireland, Spain, France, Thailand, and Cambodia for cultural immersion and course credits.
Students participating in the program departed for Spain May 30 and a group headed to Cambodia on June 2.
According to LBCC's mission statement, study abroad offers an opportunity for growth and understanding few other experiences can offer.
