After finishing in third place overall at the Southern California Championships in Bakersfield on Saturday, May 10, the Viking men's track and field team qualified eight athletes for state finals.

The Vikings with 56 points finished behind second place Moorpark (70 points) and winner Riverside (141.3 points). LBCC was led by Bryan Braman and Vannie Prudhomme,

Braman took first place in the javelin and Prudhomme won the 110-meter hurdles. Braman beat Moorpark's Alex Hoffman with a mark of 214 feet, 7 inches to 197-6 in the javelin.

Prudhomme outpaced Riverside's Dylan Nelson 13.94 to 14.45. The Vikes Marquan Jackson also finished third in the 110 with a time of 14.57.

All three Vikings qualified for the state finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15-16 at Cerritos. Head coach John Hall said, "We finished where I thought we would at Bakersfield. We've still got a lot left in the tank and we haven't peaked yet. I'm expecting nothing less than a Top 5 finish at state."

Hall said Prudhomme has been offered a scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta.
