Gala to applaud donors
Gateway scholarship fund providers to be honored

LBCC's Gateway to Greatness program will continue with a gala as part of the college's 80th anniversary Saturday, June 7 at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Champions Gym.
The celebration will honor people who have donated to the Gateway scholarship program.
The Foundation's goal is to raise $5 million for scholarships for incoming freshmen to attend LBCC for free by 2011.
Freda Otto, chairwoman of the gala, will introduce a collector's wine auction. People are welcome to donate collectible bottles of wine.
A wine bar, hors d'oeuvrs and dinner will be served and a silent auction will be conducted at the gala.
The gala also will recognize the Tong men's social-service club and the Kassai women's honor society and will serve as a reunion of Associated Student Body presidents.
Maria Cochan, campaign director for Gateway to Greatness, said, "This event is going to be very exciting and fun and everyone is welcome."
The LBCC Faculty All-star band will play big-band music for dancing.
Jordan High School career center supervisor Marquesa Lawrence said she believes the program could be beneficial to incoming students.
She said, "It would be great for our students. The students could definitely use it because some are worried about how much college costs."
President Eloy Oakley saidmore than $4 million has been pledged.
