LBCC Fashion department will host its 32nd annual fashion show Thursday, May 22 at 7:30p.m.
Program director Pamela Knights and the fashion production class organized the show. This years theme will be Masterpiece Runway.
"The idea behind the theme was inspired by great masters of art," Knight said.
As the designs parade on the runway, the artwork that inspired the design will be displayed on a screen to the audience.
For entertainment between outfit changes students from the LBCC dance program will perform art-inspired choreography. About 800-900 people are expected to attend the show.
Knight urges people to attend and said, "Its one of the most exciting fashion shows around. The energy is high because college students are putting it on. It's pretty amazing. We hired professionals models and the line usually forms from the Auditorium to the Bookstore."
The show will air live on cable channel 15 in Long Beach.
Fashion student Ruth Smith said, "It is a big opportunity for fashion majors to get a feel how it is in the industry."
Another student, Eduardo Barrera, said, "This is my first year at LBCC and I am the first person in my family to attend college so I'm looking forward to showing my garment and putting the show together as well."
This is the first LBCC fashion show that includes high school student garments. In all, 20 garments will be shown by Lakewood, Artesia and Norwalk high school. Six high schools were invited but only 3 responded.
Student Dianemarie Gonzalez said, "I think it's going to be an interesting show. It's nothing we have ever done before, because it's art and fashion."
Refreshments will be sold outside before the show and the show is open to the public. Tickets presales are $12, high school students are $8 with a valid school ID, general admission at the door is $15. Tickets may be purchased from Fashion students, the ASB bank in the LAC
