I felt compelled to respond to the hateful and disgusting behavior chronicled by Viking staff writer Kallayan Thuch's "Sure, you can borrow a pen" commentary published May 1.
"Before every semester, I buy a separate pack of pens and pick my nose with every single one of them.
I would like to offer a rebuttal to Kallayan Thuch's March 13 commentary, "Sorry, furballs, people need to be help first."
Of course, people need to be helped when ravaged by brutality, war, disease, or famine. Why would anyone question those situations? But, animals that need help should be given equal compassion and assistance.
Congratulations on your newspaper's recent journalism award.
As a former college newspaper student editor in chief, features editor, writer and columnist (Cal Poly Pomona 1990-94), I know the enormous amount of work and dedication involved in producing a student newspaper.
I looked in vain for an e-mail to the teachers that Dr. Bob Barger had died. Bob was a member of the History Department for many years, a devoted professor and sincere colleague.
That his passing went without notice is not a new wrinkle in the administration of LBCC, the practice started some years ago.
