In the middle of zoning out during lectures and class work, sometimes a parasite nearby will ask if they can "borrow" some type of school supply.

By the end of class, there is nothing in sight when I look in the direction the parasite was sitting. There goes one from my 99-cent pack of pens.

Since high school, I have wondered how someone can expect to go to school and not bring school supplies. It is fine if someone forgets because mistakes happen.

For the most part though, the concept of being prepared is beyond the leeches forced into college by their parents.

Rather than use his financial aid to stock up on school supplies, Junior instead blows his money on trendy garbage to impress people that will never really care about him.

Sometimes I wish I could refuse to let these so-called students borrow supplies from me.

I could then laugh maniacally to myself because some irresponsible jerk can't get their work done. Sadly, another prepared yet disgruntled student will reluctantly let the person borrow a supply anyway. Any hope of amusement for my day is doomed. Actually, not all hope is lost.

If freeloaders may never learn, I may as well find some other way to amuse myself.

Before every semester, I buy a separate pack of pens and pick my nose with every single one of them. This is reserved for the people who won't buy their own supplies.

Since 90 percent of the things I lend will never be returned, I may as well soil them. As the saying goes: If you can't beat them, then be a sore loser.

People should remember to bring their own supplies. If an exam is around the corner, one should use common sense and purchase some scantrons.

This is college, not high school. Take responsibility.

People need to look after themselves now.
