The launching of The Art Society of Long Beach took place at the Village Tasting Room in downtown Long Beach on April 18.
Art Society of Long Beach founder Nonny Mendoza said, "My goal and commitment is to introduce the art society to all art districts, colleges and communities from San Francisco to New York and as far as Europe.
The 27th year of the Ragga Muffins Festival has been presented in the City of Long Beach. The festival features an average of 20 artists spread out over a two-day event and is deemed one the largest reggae festivals in the U.S.
The festival, popularly coined as "Bob Marley Day," is held around the late Marley's Feb.
Don Marcy and Tony Pearson have built a set most interesting for the next theatrical production at LBCC, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by Anthony Carreiro and written by William Shakespeare.
The show premieres today, Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m in the LAC the Auditorium.
On Sunday April 20, LBCC teacher and police officer James Smith will run the final leg of the internationally recognized Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation.
Smith's 4.4 mile leg will end the 120-mile race near the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel Convention Room where festivities are planned.
Azlan and TNT won the 32nd annual Mini Grand Prix and Armando Morales was named Mr. Hot Chili Pepper on Saturday, April 12.
The men's division winner for fastest qualifying for the go-cart race was Azlan's Los Lazadores, while TNT's Flaming Feathers recorded the fastest lap/race in the women's division.
LBCC student Dr. Vonda Pelto's book "Without Remorse," is an unflinching look into her experience psycho-analyzing some of Los Angeles' most widely known serial killers.
"Remorse," which was released in August on Seven Locks Press in Santa Ana, gives readers a voyeuristic glimpse into the inner workings of a killers mind.
The 5-month-old LBCC Filmmakers Association sponsored by the film studies program serves as a resource network for students to make films outside class.
The program covers screenwriting, directing, editing and film production.
LBCC film major Gary Alvarez said, "This program is inspirational.
