LBCC's campus radio station KLBC.org has successfully broadcasted three baseball games.
KLBC will continue to cover the games Thursday April 10 vs. Compton at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12 vs. El Camino at 12 noon, Saturday, April 19 vs. Mt. San Antonio at 12 noon, Tuesday, April 22 vs. East L.A. at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 26 vs. L.A. Harbor at 12 noon.
"Wes the Sports Guy" and Jason Reed or JR have been hosting the live coverage. "Wes the Sports Guy" has been with KLBC for about a year while this is JR's first semester.
Reed said broadcasting the games over the Internet is important because it allows out-of-state family members of the players to listen to live coverage of the game.
Enthusiasts may also access a postgame condensed version of the broadcast at Reed's site, fromthecheapseats.net.
For JR, broadcasting the baseball games has been the first experience going live at a sports event. JR said he did have experience in sports writing and participating in post game shows.
When talking about the games, JR said it was a positive experience with the exception of, "a few technical difficulties." KLBC usually broadcasts its content through a phone line.
On April 5, the phone line was down. When JR realized the line was down, he said, "I had to quickly switch to my cell phone in order to broadcast." JR said the phone line should be functioning correctly for the game April 10.
In addition to broadcasting live from the baseball games, KLBC offers "Talking Sports" on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. with "Wes the Sports Guy" and JR. On Wednesdays the station offers "From the Cheap Seats" with JR. "Wes the Sports Guy" hosts his show every Tuesday and Friday from 5 to 6 p.m.
New Music Weekly magazine has rated KLBC the No. 1 station on the West Coast and No. 2 in the nation. Auburn University was Rated No. 1.
When talking about the future of the station, JR said, "new remote equipment will help on the way to No. 1."
In the future, KLBC plans on broadcasting softball, women's and men's basketball and football. KLBC may be contacted at 938-4800.
