A pizza party at the PCC Student Center on Thursday, April 3 honored EOPS students who made the Dean's List.
More than 15 students and employees attended.
Saadia Porche, director of Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, said, "This celebration is a way to honor students who achieved a G.P.A. of 3.5 and made it on the Dean's List. It also honored all EOPS students doing well and making progress toward their goals."
EOPS is a state-funded program at LBCC that assists students who are affected by social, economic, educational or language disadvantages.
The program offers services ranging from counseling and support services, priority tutoring and registering to book grants and loans.
Tammy Lespron, support specialist, said, "EOPS serves the campus graciously and EOPS is the light of LBCC. It's more than a program, it's a family and most of the staff goes out of their way to help EOPS students."
EOPS student Michael Bowman said, "I have a 4.0 G.P.A and I was on the Dean's list for Fall of 2007. I want to major in welding technologies, a program at PCC. My family is very proud of me."
EOPS program specialist Sonia Verduzco said, "I was surprised that they chose me to speak for the motivation speech. The EOPS students are the reason we go to work. They are loved."
During Verduzco's speech she encouraged students to continue to strive and work hard.
Each student received a "Dean's List" T-shirt and EOPS cup with pizza and soda.
EOPS will host a banquet Friday, May 23 at the Grand, a banquet facility in Long Beach. The event will recognize EOPS students on the Dean's List and graduating students.
Students who are interested in EOPS may still apply this semester. More information on EOPS may be obtained by calling 938-4273 at the LAC or 938-3168 at the PCC and at http://eops.lbcc.edu
