Don Marcy and Tony Pearson have built a set most interesting for the next theatrical production at LBCC, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by Anthony Carreiro and written by William Shakespeare. The show premieres today, Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m in the LAC the Auditorium.

The 27th year of the Ragga Muffins Festival has been presented in the City of Long Beach. The festival features an average of 20 artists spread out over a two-day event and is deemed one the largest reggae festivals in the U.S. The festival, popularly coined as "Bob Marley Day," is held around the late Marley's Feb.

LBCC teacher's son battles illness
LBCC math teacher Bob Maxell, has a son who was diagnosed in April of 2006 with a spinal cord tumor. Mike Maxell is best known on campus for his work as a math tutor at the Math Learning Center. The son had to cancel his classes that semester and went to Johns Hopkins medical center where a surgeon removed the tumor that he had.

Supervising investigator to compete in police rally race
On Sunday April 20, LBCC teacher and police officer James Smith will run the final leg of the internationally recognized Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. Smith's 4.4 mile leg will end the 120-mile race near the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel Convention Room where festivities are planned.

Analyzing the mind of a killer

LBCC student Dr. Vonda Pelto's book "Without Remorse," is an unflinching look into her experience psycho-analyzing some of Los Angeles' most widely known serial killers. "Remorse," which was released in August on Seven Locks Press in Santa Ana, gives readers a voyeuristic glimpse into the inner workings of a killers mind.

Musicians make melody impact

The LBCC Symphony Orchestra performed at 2pm on Sunday, March 9 in the LAC auditorium and was presented by the department of Music, Radio & Television and the Associated Student Body. A pre-concert discussion was lectured by LBCC music theory instructor Peter Knapp.

Campus film association gears up for festival
The 5-month-old LBCC Filmmakers Association sponsored by the film studies program serves as a resource network for students to make films outside class. The program covers screenwriting, directing, editing and film production. LBCC film major Gary Alvarez said, "This program is inspirational.

Clubs collaborate during Easter event

The LAC Cultural Affairs Council and Anthropology Club sponsored the Easter celebration Wednesday, March 19. Students who wanted to participate lined up and searched for the Easter eggs. Starting at noon, food was provided for free in the Nordic Lounge on the LAC campus for the first 100 people.
