A simulated shooting exercise will take place at the LAC during Spring break involving students and employees as role-players and the LBPD on Wednesday, March 26 at 9 a.m. and lasting until 6pm.

The exercise is part of LBCC's three-year plan on emergency disaster preparedness and training.

The role-players will meet in the Fishbowl located in the E building at 9 a.m. for a safety briefing lasting about an hour and the exercise will begin at 10 a.m.

Lt Julie Prior of the LBPD said, "It is important that the role-players do not have any form of weapons (pocket knives, oc-spray etc.)"

Prior said, "We will also need to know of any injuries or disabilities the role players may have."

About 10 to 12 officers we be involved in facilitating the controlled exercise. The exercise involves an officer being dispatched to a report of shots being fired on campus.

The officer responding will remove his weapon and given a simulated one.

Blanks and air pellet pistols will be used in the exercise.

"If the players want to wear ear plugs they can. We will go over that before it starts." Prior said.

"This is the first time a simulated shooting is being held at LBCC. We anticipate doing more especially at the PCC."

Students and employees who want to be role-players on Wednesday's shooting exercise may contact the LBCC police at 938-4807.
