LBCC's Child Development Center is will host a fundraiser on Saturday, April 12, to raise money for its programs on the LAC and PCC and the Parent Education Center.
This year's fundraiser is called "By the Light of The Silvery Moon" and is a "campy-prom themed dinner."
The fundraiser will include a buffet, costume contest, ticket raffle, crowning of the prom king and queen and a silent auction. Items to be auctioned off will include an Ipod, Dooney and Bourke handbag, a hotel stay, yoga and fitness classes. Staff member Renee Vidriezca of the center said, about last year's event, " It was well done, well organized. The things that were up for auction were good things. Things you would want to keep. It was fun."
The band Elm Street will also be play at the adult-only event. Last year's fundraiser drew about 200 guests and raised a $1,300.
Some of the money raised from last year went toward purchasing new shape structures, cots and professional development training.
This year, the center expects 250 guests and the goal is to raise $1,500. Updating emergency preparation kits, earthquake kits, adding to the gardening areas are goal this year. The fundraiser will be held at the Holiday Inn in Long Beach and will go from 6-10:30 p.m and tickets are $45 per person. A table for 10 is $450 and comes with free raffle tickets.
Catherine Garcia, who attended the fundraiser event last year, said, "The theme is fun and not too serious even though it is for a serious cause. It is an evening to get away from the kids, yet it is for the kids. I would encourage people to go."
Stacey Smith, site supervisor of the PCC said, "There is a lot of excitement on the event and a lot of support from the parents"
She added many are pouring in for the fundraiser and if anyone would like to donate, they can drop their donations off at either child development offices at LAC or PCC. Ticket information is sent out in early Spring.
