Musicians make melody impact

The LBCC Symphony Orchestra performed at 2pm on Sunday, March 9 in the LAC auditorium and was presented by the department of Music, Radio & Television and the Associated Student Body.
A pre-concert discussion was lectured by LBCC music theory instructor Peter Knapp. He played samples of music and compared them. He said the "B theme" from the "Pavane" sounded a little bit melancholy, but an upbeat version of that piece is also available.
"It is a lot of fun to do. The pre-concert lecture is a new idea and we are trying to generate more interest to help people enjoy the music better so they may understand more," said Peter Knapp.
"Some of the important instruments that were used were the flute, the oboe, the French horn, and the timpani or "kettle drums", said Dr. Peter Knapp.
"Performing is interesting because you can either do really well or do really poorly. As a performer, to help keep it consistent, it helps to listen and be apart of the group. It helps to also watch the other performers so you can be together as a team," student violinist Lydia Eyssallenne.
Long Beach resident Rita Van Kooy said "The concert was really good. This is the third time I attended the concert and I like going."
Another audience member Ursula Hebert said "I loved it! I've been coming for years. I loved the conductor. He usually makes jokes and makes the concert fun. The music reminds us of Berlin, Germany."
