The Cultural Affairs Council sponsored a St. Patrick's Day celebration Monday, March 17 in the LAC Food Court.

St. Patrick's day is a widely celebrated feast day that honors the patron saint of Patrick of Ireland who died on March 17, 482 A.D

The LAC Food Court sold corn beef, mashed potatoes, cornbread and cupcakes with green icing in honor of the holiday.

LaTonya Neal, cultural affairs chairwoman, passed out green beads while Irish dancer Brenna Del Riego and Carrie Madden danced traditional Irish Dances onstage.

Best friends Del Riego and Madden trained in Irish dancing for 10 years and competed all over the world in Irish dance competitions.

Student Krystal O'Malley said, "It is a really interesting type of dance you don't see very often."

Del Riego and Madden invited students to come on stage and learn Irish dance steps.

Students Andrew Newman and Patrick Demello volunteered to dance with the Irish dancers.

Newman said, "River dancing is a lot harder than it looks."

Word of advice from Demello for St. Patrick's Day is, "St. Patrick's day is a day for driving safe if you're going to get drunk."
