The Spring 09 ASB banquet was last Friday at George's Greek Café on Pine Ave. Banquet goers slowly trickled into the back patio, which was decked with a cascading fountain and live Greek melodies strummed from an acoustic guitar, around five thirty p.m.
"Tonight is an opportunity for the ASB cabinet to honor and celebrate the accomplishments for the semester," ASB advisor Bill Webb said.
Several thousand people at LBCC's graduation ceremony Thursday, May 28 heard the keynote speaker Sen. Alan Lowenthal say new graduates should never give up on finding careers despite the struggling economy.
Lowenthal "understands the need of our colleges and the need that it fills," LBCC President Eloy Oakley said after the graduation.
The LBCC Dance Department received long-awaited dance floors over Spring Break; however, the new floors are not without fault.
The new floor, installed in both the smaller Q110 and the larger Q113, is a Harlequin professional sprung floor with a Marley (vinyl) overlay.
The Anthropology Student Association and the LBCC Pagan Club hosted their annual Mystic Fair and Mayday celebration at the LAC Quad on Thursday, May 7.
The fair ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and included tarot readings and messages for a $3 contribution to the clubs.
LBCC president Eloy Oakley hopes to keep everyone at the college safe from the Swine Flu by encouraging students and faculty to wash their hands, and to stay home if sick.
An e-mail sent from Oakley's office to the LBCC community on April 30, said, "I want to assure you that we are monitoring the situation closely and are currently reviewing our pandemic influenza plans to ensure we are thoroughly prepared for any contingencies should our college be faced with reported cases.
The Career and Job Services Center and the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services hosted its 9th annual Job Fair on Thursday, April 30, in the LAC Student Center.
The Job Fair offers students contact with a variety of employers, ranging from Avon to Verizon.
Representatives from UC Berkeley visited LBCC on Sunday, May 3 in the Nordic Lounge to talk about the university's admission process, housing, and financial aid. Several Berkeley alumni, called the Southern CAL Alumni Coalition, spoke about their experiences at Berkeley and what they have accomplished since graduating.
The LBCC Shuttle has served more than 6,000 students since its debut in January 2009.
From the data provided by Spring 2008 ASB Vice President John Kindred, in March, 2,863 students rode the shuttle. "I am really happy to hear that this shuttle is helping many students.
