Daniel Pearl Music Days are a network of global concerts held each year which are centered around his birthday, Oct. 10. LBCC is joining thousands of concerts in dozens of countries worldwide, connecting people through words and music.
"Daniel's message was always peace and honor and we have to keep his memory alive," LBCC anthropology teacher Dr. Adrian Novotny said to captivated students watching the show. "We are all his relatives and I offer you the love he gave to the world."
Daniel Pearl was a journalist who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan. His family and friends came together to unite people in a more humane way and promote messages of peace globally.
Pearl was a classically trained violinist, fiddler and mandolin player and performed music all over the world.
An unconventional optimist with a passion to broaden the vision of the world, Pearl earned respect all over the globe as a highly principled reporter who traveled with his instruments, using music to unite the masses.
The event on campus featured music by John Clinebell, Adam's Attic, students from the LBCC college musical theater class, and up and coming Indie- Post Punk singer-songwriter Marliese.
"I am so privileged to be a part of Daniel Pearl Music Day," Marliese said. "This day brings musicians together all over the world to celebrate the life of a hero and it's inspiring to me."
In 2007, over 200 performers in 29 countries participated in the sixth annual Music day in a triumphant attempt to carry on Daniel's legacy and mission. This year the committee hopes to spread farther and ring louder.
