For theater student Collin Bressie, the phrase "break a leg" became a reality when he fell and broke his leg during rehearsal, putting him in a cast but taking him out of the cast of "Flaming Idiots," which opens July 17.
Corey Nexter will be replacing him as the main character Phil.
"Flaming Idiots," a Summer farce directed by Anthony Carreiro and written by Tom Rooney, will hit the Black Box theater in H103 July 17-27 and returns Aug. 21-24.
The farce has been best described by cast members as wacky, hilarious and eclectic.
"The show is really funny. Other recent shows have been classic where as this one is most slap sticky," stage director Smantha Smith said.
"Flaming Idiots"'s theme and plot is of no certainty. The play's hilarious farce concentrates on two best friends and their impossible drive for success.
Carreiro said, "Of all the plays I've directed, half Shakespeare and half comedy, this will be my first attempt at a farce. When they say timing is everything, they were talking about a farce."
"The physical style is more challenging. But since we have such a good group of theater students at LBCC, I decided to give it a try," Carreiro said.
LBCC theater students said they are eager to perform this fast-pace farce and keep their audience on edge and craving for more.
"Students will be able to relate to this production because it is the closest thing to a well-written sitcom. It has a physical humor that students would enjoy and is very similar to the Will Farrow and Mike Myers films," Carreiro said.
"Flaming Idiots" was written ten years ago and takes place in the 1990s. The play is about two guys, Carrol played by Joe Torres, and Phil played by Collin Bressie, who quit their jobs at the post office to open a restaurant. In the process of cutting corners, they hire a deaf and mute cook and a Hispanic bus boy who swears he's from Norway. To top it off, the restaurant down the street had a celebrity murder and becomes their biggest competition.
