On Sat., April 14,PCC student Karin Turley, 31, a human service major, was a marijuana user. Everyone she knew smoked weed so it felt normal to her.
Turley said it made her feel more physical and creative at times, plus it gave her an emotional outlet during depressing moments.

The horticulture department is definitely planting this year as well as planning the annual plant sale.
The department provides all major events at LBCC with plants and flowers. The LBCC horticulture plants were even seen in the Long Beach Press Telegram. The plant sale is the biggest horticulture event and will take place on April 4 -7 from 9am to 6pm at the PCC Campus.

Celebrity make-up artist Jayson Sanchez will teach six classes to students of LBCC who can earn a certificate of completion Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The program will be taught at 4900 E. Conant St., Building O2 at the far south end of the LAC from 7-10 p.m. The workshop fee is $299 and people may register by calling (562) 938-5051.

The Long Beach College Promise has been recognized as a “modeling success” by the Little Hoover Commission Report.
The Promise seeks to provide all students with as many college opportunities as possible.
The ambitious effort includes an emphasis on literacy, information, services and resources to help Long Beach students and their families prepare for college, according to the Promise website.

Students and employees may get a snapshot about agriculture work by taking a tour to Tanaka Farms in Irvine.
Talking about the farm’s history, owner Kenny Tanaka said that in 1945 after the war, his great-grandfather, who emigrated from Hiroshima-ken, Japan, started the business. In 1998, when being forced to change the farming operation due to development, they decided to grow organic products.

Students, no doubt, have seen the green “rent your books” signs pointing to the new Viking Campus Store, which is under new ownership of corporation Barnes & Noble.
Students, buying their books from either of the campus stores, will be buying from Barnes & Noble. The store also takes Barnes and Noble gift cards as payment. The transition from independent operation to corporate subsidiary was completed in July 2012. No employees were laid off. All former bookstore employees are now employees of Barnes and Noble.

Many students on campus might be unaware of the benefits of having a student ID card. “I just don’t see the point of buying one it just seems like a waste of my hard earned money," Lauren Smith, 20, a psychology major said. The college will recognize its history beginning in the 1920s.
"A Glimpse Back Through Time" is this year's homecoming theme. Throughout Homecoming week, each campus will sponsor rallies and royalty elections. The LAC royalty election will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and from 5-6 p.m. The rally is at 11 a.m.
